Jonas Brothers’ Go-To Snack Is a 3-Ingredient Classic

  • During their new tour, the Jonas Brothers are snacking on “ants on a log”—celery with nut butter and raisins.
  • The brothers share that they swap peanut butter for almond butter in their celery boats.
  • Ants on a log is a healthy, customizable snack that can help you stay fueled.

It’s not even been a year since The Jonas Brothers wrapped up their “Five Albums One Night” tour, but Joe, Kevin and Nick Jonas aren’t much for taking a break. The trio’s seventh studio album, Greetings from Your Hometown, was released earlier this month and they’ve kicked off a whole new tour to celebrate. All that singing and dancing is sure to make a guy hungry, and the pop rock stars dished on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon about their go-to way to refuel on the road.

Fallon, who saw the band’s last tour at Yankee Stadium, made note of their classic snack choice during the interview. “I went backstage, and I saw that on your rider is ants on a log,” he said.

“We’re bringing it back,” Kevin Jonas joked amid a few cheers from the crowd. The small response led Joe Jonas to add that “two people know what it is.”

“It’s celery, peanut butter, and raisins,” Fallon explained to his audience.

But lots of people identify as a sucker for ants on a log and know how yummy the classic after-school snack can be. Not only is celery a great source of vitamin K and water, but the traditional peanut butter smear on top is rich in antioxidants and may help keep blood sugar in check. What’s more, raisins are full of gut-friendly fiber and potassium.

But the Jonas Brothers don’t put peanut butter on their ants on a log. “We do almond butter,” Nick Jonas said. “It’s better for you, you know.”

While the supreme nut butter may be up to the eye of the snacker, one thing’s for sure: almond butter contains lots of vitamin E, promotes blood sugar control, and can supply your body with heart-healthy unsaturated fats. Truly, you can’t go wrong with either protein-packed nut butter for your snacking needs.

Because there’s a finicky eater in every family, there’s one Jonas who has an extra-special request when it comes to his ants on a log. “I don’t like the ants,” said Kevin Jonas. “I don’t like the raisins, so just give me the log.” (Hey, a man has to do what a man gotta do.)

To celebrate the release of Greetings from Your Hometown and the latest Jonas Brothers tour, Fallon brought out a special plate of snacks to share with his guests. “I thought it’d be fun to just cheers with some ants on a log,” Fallon said as he passed out ants on a log (minus the ants for Kevin) and champagne to the brothers.

“It’s like sweet bone marrow,” Kevin said, biting into his log after the group toasted with their tasty snacks.

The trio are well-known for their backstage eats, which have long included Rob’s Backstage Popcorn, the popcorn brand started by a friend of the band. And we have to admit, a spread with with sweet and savory popcorn, ants on a log and some other munchies sounds like a great way to stay fueled on stage.

Of course, there are other ways to enjoy the simple ingredients in ants on a log. Celery in any form is our No. 1 snack for de-bloating, and snacking on raisins—by themselves or on a log—is a great way to help your body produce regular bowel movements.
