With summer in full swing, you may be prepping for outdoor gatherings with family and friends. Whether you need inspo for your Fourth of July spread, have dinner plans for Father’s Day or you’re just looking for a delicious party appetizer, Giada De Laurentiis and her daughter Jade just shared an easy dish that you’ll want to try.
In recent Instagram videos, De Laurentiis’ daughter cooked alongside the celebrity chef and recreated a viral recipe. And go figure, their videos also received lots of love on TikTok and Instagram because of their bond—as well as for the tasty dish they’re making.
The high protein-appetizer in question is salmon cups. Formed and baked in muffin tins, the salmon cups are held together in a seaweed wrap with rice for the perfect bite.
After cubing the raw salmon, the fish marinates in a mixture of mayo, honey, ponzu and sesame oil. While it sits, the De Laurentiis duo create the bases for each salmon cup. They line each muffin tin cup with a seaweed square that covers the entire cup—they note that this is a key step, as the cups with less seaweed eventually struggle to hold together. Then, they add white rice on top of the seaweed before adding in the marinated salmon.
Bake the salmon cups at 400 degrees F for 18 minutes for the same results: a savory starter that’s texture heaven. Giada gives it a “thumbs up” and Jade notes that they’re “very good” and worth making again in the near future.
Salmon isn’t just a yummy source of protein. It’s loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, a nutrient that can help fight inflammation and support your heart health. Plus, salmon and seaweed are both packed with vitamin B12, which is important for your brain health and energy levels.
Omit the cup and this app reminds us of our own Crispy Salmon Bites, a party-pleasing hor d’oeuvres that’s ready in 15 minutes. Pair the salmon cups with a seasonal salad for a refreshing start to any main course.
