If you’ve ever clipped into a Peloton bike and been lovingly roasted while breaking a sweat, chances are you’ve met Cody Rigsby. The fan-favorite instructor, podcast co-host of Tactful Pettiness and all-around king of keeping it real is an advocate for making wellness feel fun. And recently, he chatted with EatingWell through his partnership with Planet Oat’s Breakfast Oatpost about his eating habits and routines.
In this exclusive interview, Rigsby spills on his favorite walking shoe, go-to high-protein meal and why a creamy oat milk latte (with four shots of espresso, thank you very much) is his love language.
What’s your perfect morning coffee?
I’m a latte guy, and I use Planet Oat Barista Lovers for that creamy, dreamy vibe. Please don’t judge me, but I’m putting four shots of espresso in there. We all have our vices—let me live! Some mornings I’ll switch it up and do a classic drip coffee with a splash of oat milk.
Do you have a favorite creamy smoothie recipe?
Always have to have a banana in there. I start with unsweetened Planet Oat vanilla oat milk, which is just enough flavor without being too sweet. Then I toss in a ripe (but not too ripe) banana, peanut butter powder for that nutty richness with less fat and a scoop of protein powder—plant-based or whey, depending on my mood. I’ll throw in a handful of spinach for greens and micronutrients. If I’m trying to build muscle, I’ll add a cup of oats. It’s not necessarily delicious, but it’s efficient!
What’s your tip for staying hydrated?
I love water, and I’m always confused when people say they don’t like the taste—like, are you human? I start the day with a tall glass of water, at least 16 ounces, to wake me up. And yes, I’m that person with a Stanley cup by my side at all times. At night—or after a sauna sesh—I’ll do a Liquid I.V. I love that salty kick.
You’re a busy guy—what are your go-to high-protein meals?
Not gonna lie, I secretly keep steak in the fridge at all times. I love beef. I’ll cook up some steak and seasoned veggies, super simple. And of course, my faithful protein shake with Planet Oat Milk. It just tastes so much better than mixing with water. I’m also a big fan of eggs in the morning. I find that when you prioritize protein, everything else falls into place: you’re full, satisfied and less tempted to snack on junk throughout the day.
What’s your favorite walking shoe?
Lululemon Beyondfeel in all white. Technically a running shoe, but I wear them for walking, too. Nothing makes me feel more rich, expensive and luxurious than a crisp white sneaker.
What’s an underrated health habit more people should embrace?
Sleep, babe! You do not need to watch another episode of whatever’s on Netflix, and you definitely don’t need to be scrolling TikTok stalking your ex. Shut it down. Go to bed at a decent hour. I’m in bed by 10 and asleep by 11. I wake up at 7 a.m.—and yes, it hurts sometimes—but being consistent is key. The earlier you get up, the earlier you’ll get tired. Get yourself on a sleep cycle and protect your mornings. You need that time for you.
What do you love about Planet Oat products?
It’s a great way to start the morning, whether it’s going in my coffee or pouring over a bowl of cereal (yes, I still enjoy cereal in the morning, don’t judge me!). I love that their unsweetened options don’t have added sugar, and the texture is super creamy. It’s also perfect for overnight oats. I feel like everyone’s been on a milk journey at some point—it’s like dating, we’ve all tried it all. And I’ll just say this: Planet Oat doesn’t give me any “rumble in the jungle,” if you know what I mean.
